Fastnacht, Fasching, Karneval oder wie auch immer ihr das nennt ist da und heute ist buntes Treiben im KiGa. Die Kleine wünschte sich dieses Jahr Anna aus die Eiskönigin und da ich im Moment nur wenig (bezahlt) arbeite war ich gerne bereit den Wunsch zu erfüllen.
It's carnival time here in Germany and t0day they celebrate at the little one's daycare. Since I only work a few (paid) hours at the moment I happily obliged her when she wished to go as Anna from Frozen.
Dabei gibt es nur ein paar kleine Probleme:
There are just some minor problems:
1. Mein Kind ist nicht computeranimiert. Ihre Augäpfel haben nicht die gleiche Größe wie ihr Handgelenk, der Hals ist auch wesentlich dünner als die Taille.
1. My kid isn't computer-animated. Her eyeballs are not the same size as her wrists and her neck is much thinner than her waist.
2. Mein Kind is 6 Jahre, nicht 16. Auch wenn wir die wunderschöne Vielfalt von echten Frauenkörpern als Referenzgrundlage nehmen, der Körper einer 6jährigen ist einfach anders.
2. My kid is 6 years old. Even if we look at the whole wonderful range of women's bodies, they are different from a child's.
3. Das Kostüm ist auch nicht computeranimiert. Echte Stoffe folgen nunmal den Gesetzen der Physik und laut denen kann ein Rock nicht im Stehen ganz glatt runterhängen und beim Drehen nahezu kreisrund sein.
3. The costume isn't computer-animated either. Real fabric has to follow the laws of physics and they rule that a skirt cannot hang totally flat when standing and be almost a full circle when twirling.
4. Irgendwo ist auch mal Schluss. Nein, mein Kind ist keine Prinzessin und bei aller Liebe hatte ich keinen Bock nun auch noch Stoffdruck anzufangen und Stempel zu schnitzen um die Muster auf dem Mantel richtig hinzukriegen.
4. My patience has limits. Nope, she ain't a real princess so I wouldn't learn all about fabric printing and making my own stamps just to get the pattern on the cloak.
Nun aber genug geredet, hier das Kostüm im Detail:
Enough talking, here's the costume in detail:
1. Der Pulli: Selbstverständlich war kein hellblauer Pulli aufzutreiben, deshalb habe ich einen weißen gefärbt, den Rolli etwas umgearbeitet und mit einem Overlockstich verziert. Wichtig bei all diesen Stickereien: abreißbares Stickvlies!
1. The shirt: Of course there were no light blue shirts on sale, so I dyed a white one and customized the turtle neck. I also added some overlock stiches for decoration. Important: all the embroidery requires tear away stabilizer!
2. Der Rock: Wie schon erwähnt, hier herrscht die Physik. Als Kompromiss zwischen Weite und Sitz besteht er aus 4 Bahnen die oben 25, unten 50 cm breit sind. Oben mit breitem Gummi für bequemen Sitz. Unten ist er mit Satinstich freihand bestickt.
2. The skirt: As already mentioned, the laws of physics don't take time off. As a compromise between width and silhouette it'S made from 4 pieces of fabric, each 50 cm at the bottom and 25 cm at the top, hemmed in with a wide elastic for comfort. The bottom is embroidered with free moving satin stiches.

4. Der Mantel: Da sieht man auf den Disney Bildern sogar eine Naht: An den Seiten ist ein oben abgerundeter Keil eingearbeitet um über die Schultern Volumen herauszunehmen. War mir jetzt aber ehrlich zu aufwändig. Hier einfach im Vollkreis, mit Bommelborte und aufgenähter Kordel statt Stoffdruck.
4. The cloak: Actually you can see a seam in the Disney pictures on this piece: there is a kind or rounded wedge inserted at the sides to take away volume over the shoulders, but honestly, it was too much work for my taste, so I simply went with a full circle. Instead of the printed pattern I sewed on some ribbon.
